Your account
Only the host needs an account. Your guests just join with the link. This page covers signing in, passkeys, the quick check before security-related changes, changing your email address, and every mail podsink sends.
Signing up and signing in¶
There's no password with podsink. You enter your email address, podsink sends you a magic link, and one click on it signs you in. The link is valid for 15 minutes and works exactly once. Signing up works the same way, except that the first link also creates your account. If the mail hasn't shown up after a minute, it's worth checking your spam folder.
After that, you stay signed in on that browser for 30 days, unless you sign out from the menu first.
Passkeys¶
A passkey saves you the trip to your inbox. You just sign in with your fingerprint, face unlock, or your device's screen lock instead. It's also the more secure option, since there's no link anyone could intercept.
Right after you sign up, podsink offers to set one up for you. Later you can add more or remove them any time under Passkeys on your account page. Each passkey has a short name you can change, so you can tell your laptop's from your phone's.
The magic link keeps working alongside your passkeys. So losing a device won't lock you out.
Verifying it is you¶
Before you add or remove a passkey or change your email address, podsink wants to make sure it's really you, and it asks once every 15 minutes. You can confirm either with a passkey you already have or with a verification mail. After that, the change goes through.
Changing your email address¶
On the account page, under Contact information, you enter your new address, and podsink sends a confirmation link there. The address only changes once you click that link, and until then everything keeps going to the old one. The check from above comes first.
The mails podsink sends¶
Everything podsink sends goes to your account's address, except the confirmation link for a new address, which goes to the new one. There are exactly seven kinds of mail. Six of them are part of the service and can't be switched off:
- The sign-in link.
- The sign-up link.
- The confirmation link for a new email address.
- The verification mail before a security-relevant change.
- The reminder before a recording is deleted at the end of its retention period, with the download link, sent only when you haven't downloaded it yet.
- The receipt for a cancellation.
The seventh is a product mail, a quick check-in after your first recorded session with a few tips on using podsink. It only goes out if you've said yes to product mails, either with the box at sign-up, which isn't pre-ticked, or with the switch under Notifications on your account page. Every product mail has an unsubscribe link that works without signing in.
If you withdraw your consent, the product mails stop. You'll still get the six service mails, though, because the reminder among them is the only thing standing between you and a lost recording.
podsink doesn't send newsletters or ads for anyone else, and we don't pass your address on for that either.
Deleting your account¶
There's no button for this yet. Just send a mail from your account's address to hello@podsink.com, and we'll delete the account along with everything in it. The privacy notice describes your rights, including the right to erasure, and who to contact.
