What podsink is
podsink records podcasts right in your browser, audio and, if you want, video too. Everyone records on their own device, and at the end you get one clean track per person that lines up exactly with all the others. Editing and mixing then happen in whatever tool you already use.
Recording happens on your end¶
podsink records your microphone and camera right on your computer instead of streaming them to a server that records them there. That's why the recording doesn't depend on how good your internet connection is. If your line gets shaky, the others might hear you a bit worse live, but everything still ends up in the file.
While you talk, podsink uploads the recording in small pieces in the background. So by the time you stop, most of it is already on the server, and the rest follows shortly after.
Every voice on its own track¶
Everyone gets their own track for audio and, if you're recording with video, another one for video (formats and quality). Each track only has that one person on it, so you can edit, level and clean up every voice on its own.
If someone drops out midway, everyone else keeps recording as normal. Whatever that person recorded up to then is safe on their device and keeps uploading once they're back online.
Everything lines up from the start¶
So you don't have to line anything up by hand, podsink pads the start of each audio track with just enough silence that all the WAVs begin at the same moment. It takes care of the small timing differences between devices too. Drag the files into your editing software, and they line up. The project files that come with them put the videos in the right place.
Editing happens in your own tool¶
Cutting, mixing and mastering are usually a one-person job, and you need a tool that reacts instantly when you jump around an hour of audio. That just doesn't work well in a browser. So podsink sticks to recording and gets your tracks ready, markers included, to drop straight into Reaper, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, or whatever else you use.
What you need¶
As the host, you need an account and a session. Your guests only need the invite link and a name, no account required. And everyone should use Chrome or Edge on a computer, because those are the two browsers we support and test with.
